Edward Eyre (1815-1901) was a self-made English explorer. He set out into the inland of South Australia and New South Wales. He maintained friendly relations between white settlers and aborigines along the Murray River. He later became a Governor of Jamaica. Lake Eyre, the largest salt lake in Australia is named after him.
