Charles Sturt (1795-1869) was an army captain and explorer. He led expeditions inland to trace the flow of westward flowing rivers in New South Wales and to find the ‘inland sea' of Australia. Sturt's Stony Desert was named after him and is the place where the ‘inland sea' was believed to be located. Pages: 52
